What is Arthrosamid?

Arthrosamid is a non-biodegradable hydrogel injected into the knee to help reduce pain and improve joint function in people with knee osteoarthritis. It integrates with the joint lining to provide additional cushioning and lubrication, supporting smoother movement over time. Many patients begin to notice improvement within a few weeks, with continued benefit developing over 4 to 12 weeks.

Before your procedure

To proceed with the fixed price package, you will first need to book an initial consultation with an orthopaedic or pain medicine specialist. If clinically appropriate, your consultant will recommend Arthrosamid treatment and refer you onto the Fixed Price Package pathway.

You will undergo a clinical assessment to confirm suitability for treatment. This ensures the procedure is appropriate and safe based on your medical history, symptoms, and any relevant imaging

During your procedure

Your Arthrosamid injection will be carried out as a day-case procedure in a dedicated treatment room. The area around your knee will be cleaned and numbed using local anaesthetic, and the injection will be performed using imaging guidance, where appropriate, to ensure accurate placement.

The procedure typically takes around 15–30 minutes, and you will be able to return home the same day.

After your procedure

You will be able to return home shortly after the injection. Mild swelling, stiffness, or discomfort in the knee is common for a few days, and you will be given guidance on managing symptoms and gradually returning to normal activities.

Most patients begin to experience knee pain relief within 24 hours, although optimal results develop over four to twelve weeks as the hydrogel integrates with the synovial tissue. It is recommended to avoid strenuous activity and heavy lifting during this recovery period to allow the knee joint to settle properly.

Follow-up care

This fixed price package does not include a follow-up consultation. If further review is required, this can be arranged separately.
