Dr Irfan Ahmed is a Consultant in Musculoskeletal, Sport & Exercise Medicine (SEM). He graduated from the University of Cambridge and completed his higher specialist training in the London deanery. As a Specialist Sports Medicine Doctor he has worked within professional football, tennis, athletics and amateur boxing – helping patients to achieve their health and training performance goals.
Dr Ahmed is a regular contributor to the British Journal of Sports Medicine (BJSM) and lead author of the MSK Playbook education series. He has published his work on the use of new MRI imaging techniques, point of care Musculoskeletal Ultrasound, and the cutting-edge research to help treat musculoskeletal injuries and exercise related conditions. These include offering patients the latest treatments for osteoarthritis, tendinopathies, muscle injuries, stress fractures, bone health in athletes, back pain, treatments for frozen shoulder, rotator cuff injuries, intermittent fasting for health, and (aerobic) training performance.
Whether you have a sudden (acute) or long term (chronic) musculoskeletal condition or joint pain, Dr Ahmed can offer a holistic approach to management. He has a special interest in exercise performance, and muscle function and has published his work internationally including being awarded the (International Clinical Scholar Award in 2021 by the American College of Sports Medicine) & a BASEM travelling fellowship in 2023 – to visit the Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital.
