PROFESSIONAL PROFILE
Amanda’s career has so far seen her working with patients of all ages and at all stages of health, from babies upwards. She’s now been an Advanced Practice Physiotherapist for more than 15 years. Amanda greatly enjoys the variety and have developed my clinical expertise by working in many different environments from sports grounds such as Twickenham, deploying on numerous occasions as an Army physiotherapist, through to working in hospitals, clinics, schools and businesses and also with many post-graduate courses.
Amanda will treat you, not just your injury. That’s why she will do more than just treat your symptoms. She will look to address the root cause, listen, set goals and create a personalised treatment plan after discussing the best and most appropriate treatment options with you. All to help you return to your best life possible. Amanda is passionate about providing exceptional care and will work closely with you throughout your treatment to get you back to the simple pleasures of working, sleeping, playing and living life to the full.
Being able to spend time with people to help them regain their independence and reducing pain is the fundamental reason why Amanda became a physiotherapist and after more than 30 years of working, she can proudly say, “I still love doing what I do!”
Amanda has completed many post-graduate and professional courses, including gaining recognition as an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner. This means she can perform additional activities traditionally reserved to the role of the medical staff and beyond those of a regular physiotherapist. In my case this means she can directly request diagnostic imaging here at One Stop Healthcare, when it is clinically indicated for musculoskeletal conditions. Another advanced skill is that since 2011, Amanda has been performing corticosteroid and hyaluronic acid joint and soft tissue injections. Both these skills are in addition to using evidence-based therapy and working with someone to rehabilitate an injury, manage a condition or prepare for surgery, whether you want to get back to doing the weekly shopping or running an Ironman.
Amanda is fascinated by how amazing the human body and mind is, by how we can influence it to adapt, recover and overcome problems and she incorporates this into treatment sessions to help enhance outcomes.
Things that make Amanda happy; discharging a patient knowing they are managing better than before they started treatment or, hearing a patient has come to see her because someone recommended her. Oh, and not to mention her favourites, coffee and cake!
To balance her love of cake, you may find Amanda working off some calories, enjoying the fresh air and continual challenge that the game of golf provides. She has recently restarted playing tennis and is continuing with her own recovery following knee surgery by getting back into running. Amanda has a long way to go to get back to running half marathons but that doesn’t matter, for her it is all about getting out there and doing something. Her Mantra is: Start where you are, Use what you have, Do what you can. So why not come and see Amanda and let her help you?
