Dr Matthew J Knight

Dr Knight is a Consultant Respiratory Physician based at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and is also the Medical Director for Medefer. He trained at UCL and undertook his post graduate training in London.

He has an interest in unexplained breathlessness and runs the cardio-pulmonary exercise testing service at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals. He has an active research profile and has published widely, particularly in the use of remote monitoring technology and more recently on the monitoring and follow up of patients with Covid. He received an MBE in 2020 for his work during the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dr Knight works as part of a broader team, in particular with colleagues from Respiratory Physiology, Radiology, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Thoracic Surgery, ENT and Cardiology. He believes that the advances of modern medicine often mean that a multi-disciplinary approach is required to ensure the best possible patient care.

Dr Knight lives and works locally and when not in clinic can often be found walking the dog with his family in the countryside in and around Hemel Hempstead. He enjoys cooking (and eating!) and socialising, as well as a bit of European travel when time allows.
