Dr Arun Rajendran is a highly regarded Consultant Gastroenterologist with over a decade of experience in diagnosing and treating a broad spectrum of digestive disorders. His expertise encompasses bowel polyps, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). In a private setting, he provides comprehensive outpatient care alongside advanced endoscopic procedures.
After graduating in 2001, Dr Rajendran embarked on specialist training in gastroenterology in North West London. He further enhanced his skills through a prestigious three-year research and teaching fellowship at St Mark’s Hospital, a globally recognised centre of excellence for bowel disease. In 2020, he earned a research MD from King’s College London, focusing on the learning curve of colonoscopic polypectomy, a crucial technique in the prevention of colorectal cancer. His research contributions have been acknowledged with with accolades such as the NIHR CLAHRC Support Award, the ASGE Cook Medical Marsha Dreyer Award, and the BSG Best Teaching Abstract Award.
A passionate educator, Dr Rajendran is a Senior Clinical Teacher at Imperial College London and holds the position of Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Brunel Medical School. He actively contributes to advancing gastroenterology through clinical trials, peer-reviewed publications, and presentations at national and international conferences, focusing on cancer prevention, endoscopy training, and IBD management.
Since 2018, Dr Rajendran has been a full-time Consultant in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine at Hillingdon Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, where he also leads the endoscopy training.
Fluent in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Kannada, Dr Rajendran ensures effective communication with patients from diverse backgrounds. His patient-centred approach guarantees personalised, high-quality care tailored to each individual’s needs, blending clinical expertise with compassion and understanding.
Dr Rajendran is highly skilled in both diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, offering a comprehensive range of treatments, including:
– Diagnostic Procedures: Gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, and colonoscopy.
– Therapeutic Colonoscopy: Complex polypectomy (removal of large or difficult polyps), endoscopic mucosal resection, and stricture management.
– Therapeutic Gastroscopy: Stricture dilatation, achalasia dilatation, percutaneous gastrostomy tube placement, and management of upper gastrointestinal bleeding.
Outside of his professional commitments, Dr Rajendran enjoys immersing himself in books, listening to music, and pursuing his passion for photography. He spends his leisure time cycling, as well as playing cricket, badminton, and chess. In addition to English, he is fluent in Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi.
